KUDLA CROWNED AGAIN

FASST CO / ENDURO ENGINEERING'S RYAN KUDLA WINS BY 1 POINT!!!

The reigning District 37 Enduro Overall and Heavy Weight Champion Ryan Kudla was able to take the illustrios titles once again but this time it would be much more difficult. There was more competition then ever in the maiden season of the Checkpoint Enduro Championship hosted by District 37's Western Enduro Promoters Group and it would come down to the very last point!

The chase started off rocky at Round 1 hosted by United MC as a wrong turn would add nearly 3 miles and 8 minutes to Kudla's route and fell to 6th overall and 3rd in class handing the lead over to PDI Racing's Brad Pace.

Ryan was able to make up points at the Checkers Hare and Hound which paid Enduro Points taking the win by mere seconds over Pace but would then use his first throw away after breaking a valve guide at the Rovers Hare and Hound which also paid Enduro Points. 3 brothers Racing's Nick Hamill would stay consistant all season staying just shy of the lead while Pace would hold on solidly through the next few rounds and into the Summer Break. Kudla would get back into the chase quickly though taking 2 Back to Back overall wins at Round 4 and 5 putting him into the lead but only a handful of points ahead of Hamill. Pace would drop out of the race just before Round 5 after taking a hard spill at a National Hare and Hound and effectively ending his season early.

The Final Round would be do or die for Kudla and Hamill and the weekend started out dismal with a last minute bike issue Kudla was forced to race his Dad's stock KTM 450 EXC-R and do what he could to salvage points. Hamill would have to win and Kudla would have to finish 3rd if he had any chance of the title. Both riders would put in great rides and Hamill did exactly what he needed to do. He took the overall Enduro win and just had to wait for the results to see where Kudla finished. Amazingly enough Ryan was able to pull off 2nd overall and take the 2011 Overall Checkpoint Enduro Championship by one single point! He was also able to wrap up the Heavy Weight title with Pace out andfinish just 60 points ahead of Mid Cities Honda's Nick Blais.

2. Nick Hamill - KTM - 147

3. Brad Pace - KAW - 127

4. Nick Blais - HON - 124

Red Mountain, Ca - Photos by Dave Burson - www.usdesertracing.com

The Finale of the 2011 US Desert Racing Series coulnd't have gone any better. Friday evening the skies opened up and poured rain all night long until the early morning making for perfect racing conditions. Not only would Zip-Ty HUsky's Nick Burson wrap up his 5th Pro title in a row, but many others would earn their titles it what was to be one of the best USDR events to date.

Race 1 started the day of with a bang when Senior 2's reigning Champion John Sides would have the battle of his life with newly bumped Senior 2 racer Mark Torgeson. The two would go back and forth for what seemed like forever with the dust free conditions. "I think thats the first time I've had a battle like that in a LOOONG time" commented Sides "I'd pass him [Torgeson] and think 'thats the last I'll see of him' and then here he'd come bonzain' out of the rocks! It was crazy!" The two would battle nearly the entire first lap until Torgeson would catch a "G-Out" wrong and twist his ankle effectively ending the battle for him as he hobbled in at 12th overall.
